Tamil Nadu is set to witness a mix of rainfall and dry conditions over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms
and lightning in several parts of the state.
Rain Likely In Chennai And Nearby Districts
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is expected in Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram. Short spells of rain may occur within a brief window, potentially affecting traffic and leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Chennai is also likely to experience partly cloudy skies, with temperatures ranging between 27-28°C at night and 37-38°C during the day.
Showers To Continue Across Multiple Districts
According to a report in Economic Times, rainfall activity is expected to extend to several districts, including Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, and Tiruchirappalli, along with Puducherry and Karaikal.
These regions may receive light to moderate showers with occasional thunderstorms and lightning, which could result in slippery roads and minor disruptions to movement.
Heavy Rain Alert For Hill Districts
The weather department has issued a warning for isolated heavy rainfall in hill districts such as Virudhunagar, Dindigul, and Theni, particularly along the Western Ghats. These areas may experience intense showers on April 6 and 7, with a possibility of hailstorms in select locations.
More broadly, ghat regions across Tamil Nadu are expected to receive isolated heavy rain during this period, especially in elevated and forested zones.
Southern Regions To See Rain, North To Remain Dry
According to a report in Asia Net News, while southern Tamil Nadu and parts of the Western Ghats are likely to receive rainfall with thunderstorms, northern parts of the state, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, are expected to remain largely dry.
Temperatures in these northern areas may gradually rise by 2-3°C over the coming days.
Weather observers have indicated that scattered summer showers are likely to persist for the next few days. Western, southern, and Cauvery delta districts may continue to witness intermittent rain with thunder activity, while some interior regions near the Western Ghats could also see isolated hail events.
Temperature Trends Across The State
Temperatures in the ghat regions, particularly in Coimbatore and the Nilgiris, are currently below normal. In contrast, most other parts of Tamil Nadu are experiencing near-normal temperature levels.
In the hill stations, Kodaikanal recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 11.7°C during the night between Saturday and Sunday, reflecting the cooler conditions prevailing in elevated areas.
No Advisory For Fishermen
Authorities have not issued any specific warning for fishermen at this stage, even as weather conditions continue to vary across regions.
