According to an official press statement, the Prime Minister will arrive in Churachandpur at around 11.30 am.
He will first interact with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), lay the foundation stone of multiple infrastructure projects, and address a public gathering at the State Peace Ground.
Later in the day, he will travel to Kangla at around 2.00 pm, where he will again interact with IDPs, inaugurate developmental projects both within and outside Manipur, and address another public gathering.
The projects include foundation stones for works worth Rs 7,300 crore, while projects worth Rs 1,200 crore are set to be inaugurated.
“These initiatives underscore the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s continued commitment and dedication for the development and welfare of the state,” the statement read, calling upon the people of Manipur to participate in welcoming him during the programme.
PM Modi is scheduled to visit Manipur on Saturday, over two years after a deadly ethnic violence swept the northeastern state, and unveil projects to the tune of Rs 8,500 crore.
In the state, PM Modi will lay foundation stones for various development projects worth Rs 7,300 crore from Peace Ground in Churachandpur, where Kukis are in the majority.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate infrastructure projects totalling Rs 1,200 crore from Meitei-majority Imphal.
The Manipur government had on Thursday evening put up a large billboard, announcing the Prime Minister’s programmes at Churachandpur’s Peace Ground and Kangla Fort in Imphal on Saturday.
The hoarding came up at Keisampat Junction, a key location in Imphal, which is also close to the BJP’s state headquarters.
