Rumours about a possible title change for Sunny Deol’s upcoming film Lahore 1947 have been doing the rounds online, but producer Aamir Khan has now addressed the speculation. The actor-producer confirmed
that the film continues to retain its original title and that no decision has been made to rename it.
The period drama, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and backed by Aamir Khan Productions, has been generating considerable anticipation among fans. Recent reports had suggested that the makers were considering renaming the film Batwara 1947 in order to avoid potential controversy. However, Aamir dismissed those claims when senior journalist Subhash K Jha asked him about the speculation.
“Where did you hear that? No, the title of our film has not changed. As of now, it is Lahore 1947, and that’s how I would like it to be.”
The film is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on August 13, 2026, just ahead of the Independence Day weekend. For now, the project appears to have a largely clear release window, as Kartik Aaryan’s Naagzilla has reportedly been postponed.

There is also some industry chatter that Salman Khan’s Battle Of Galwan could target the same holiday weekend. However, Salman shares a strong rapport with both Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan, making it unclear whether a box office clash will actually take place.
Lahore 1947 features a notable ensemble cast. Alongside Sunny Deol, the film stars Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh in key roles. The film also marks Preity Zinta’s return to the big screen after an eight-year gap. Her last theatrical release was Bhaiaji Superhit, which also featured Sunny Deol but failed to perform well at the box office.
The film has attracted attention for several reasons. Sunny Deol and director Rajkumar Santoshi share a successful creative partnership, having previously collaborated on acclaimed films such as Ghayal, Damini and Ghatak. Their upcoming project marks their first film together in nearly three decades.
The story of Lahore 1947 is adapted from the well-known play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai by playwright Asghar Wajahat, which explores themes surrounding the time of India’s Partition.
