Three Indians were moderately injured after a missile and drone attack by Iran caused a fire at a major UAE oil industry zone on Monday. This marked the first attack by Iran on a Gulf neighbour since a fragile
ceasefire was struck with the United States on April 8.
The Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi informed that three Indian nationals were injured in the Iranian attack. “We are in touch with local authorities for ensuring adequate medical care and welfare of the affected Indian nationals,” it said.

Civil defence teams rushed to contain the fire at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, the Fujairah Media Office said in a statement, adding that the injured were then taken to the hospital.
The UAE’s defence ministry said they detected four cruise missiles from Iran after multiple alerts from authorities. “Three were successfully engaged over the country’s territorial waters, while one fell in the sea,” the defence ministry said.
Fujairah is home to a major port, pipeline and other petroleum based installations bypassing the virtually shut Strait of Hormuz.
The attack came after US warships entered the Strait of Hormuz as part of a new ship escort mission announced by US President Donald Trump over the weekend, raising tensions of a renewed conflict.
‘Dangerous Escalation’
The UAE called the Iranian attacks a “dangerous escalation” and an “unacceptable transgression” that posed a direct threat to the country’s security, adding that it “reserves its full and legitimate right to respond to these attacks”.
On the other hand, Iran’s state TV said the Iranian navy fired a cruise missile “warning shot” and had “no plans” to target the UAE.
Meanwhile, Israeli leader Naftali Bennett called the Iranian attack a “declaration of the renewal of Iran’s war against the allies of the United States and Israel across the region” and extended support to the UAE.
The incident threatens to unravel the fragile ceasefire between Iran, the United States and Israel, which had held despite tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing naval confrontations in the Gulf.
Tehran’s forces effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for oil and gas shipments, in response to the US-Israeli military campaign that began on February 28, while Washington is maintaining a blockade of Iranian ports.
