A native of East Delhi, Devyanshu Bhardwaj grew up in a family where every rupee mattered. Life became difficult after an accident left his father unable to work regularly. His mother took on the responsibility
of running the household, working long hours as a tailor. However, these challenges did not discourage Devyanshu. Instead, they became his strength.
He studied at the School of Specialised Excellence (SOSE) in Khichripur, where he was known for his discipline and focus. He scored an excellent 97% in Class 12 under the Delhi Board of School Education and secured a GEN-EWS rank of 429 in JEE Advanced. However, his journey was not easy.
Due to financial difficulties, Devyanshu could not afford expensive coaching classes for exams like JEE Advanced. He followed a strict daily routine. “I focused on maintaining consistency rather than studying for extremely long hours. I attended classes regularly, completed assignments on time, and ensured that I did not allow backlogs to accumulate. Since many concepts overlapped between school and JEE preparation, I tried to build strong fundamentals that would benefit both,” he told News18.
He joined PhysicsWallah’s Online JEE course. “I believe online education can be sufficient if it provides quality content, proper guidance, and regular practice opportunities. Today, students can access excellent teachers, study materials, doubt-solving support, and test series online. However, the learning also depends on self-discipline and consistency. If students stay committed and make full use of the available resources, online education can be highly effective for exams like JEE Advanced,” Devyanshu said.
He also stated that the Delhi board school syllabus, based on NCERT, helped him build a strong foundation for JEE. The main difference was that JEE required deeper understanding, while board exams focused more on application-based questions.

His motivation came from his family. He wanted to build a better future and support his parents. For him, getting into an IIT was not just about success in studies—it was about giving his family a more secure and stable life.
“My biggest motivation was my family. I aim to build a career that will provide a better life for my parents and fulfil the dreams they have set aside because of financial constraints. IITs represent some of the best opportunities for learning, growth, and career development in India, and I saw JEE Advanced as a way to achieve those goals. The desire to create a secure future for my family kept me motivated throughout my preparation,” he added.
Devyanshu now hopes to study Electronics and Communication Engineering. His first choice is IIT Roorkee, and he is also considering IIT BHU.
