The Punjab floods have wreaked havoc causing 29 deaths so far while impacting as many as 2.65 lakh people across the north India state. The widespread rain has inundated villages and damaged crops in low-lying
areas.
12 of the 23 districts in Punjab including Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur and Amritsar have been affected. The state has received 253.7 mm of rain in August alone which is 74 per cent in excess of normal and the highest in 25 years.
Gill, who hails from Punjab, has reacted to the devastation caused by rain, expressing his sympathy and praying for those affected.
“Heartbroken to see my Punjab devastated by floods. Punjab will always be stronger than any adversity, and we’ll rise up from this. My prayers are with all affected families. Standing strong with my people,” Gill posted on X (formerly Twitter).

PM Modi Dials Punjab CM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann taking stock of the situation and assured him of support.
“Immediately after landing in Delhi, Prime Minister Modi called Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to discuss the situation due to heavy rain and flooding in Punjab. He has assured him of all help and support to the state,” an official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The Punjab government on Monday announced closure of all colleges, universities and polytechnic institutes till September 3 in the wake of continuous rainfall across the state.
Mann on Monday visited the flood-hit areas in Hoshiarpur and said every effort will be made to bail people out in this hour of crisis as the state battles the “worst floods in recent history”.
The bulletin states that out of the 29 casualties, Pathankot district reported the highest number with six deaths.
Amritsar, Barnala, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Mansa, and Rupnagar districts each reported three deaths, while Bathinda, Gurdaspur, Patiala, Mohali, and Sangrur each reported one death.
Additionally, three people are missing in Pathankot.
So far, 15,688 people have been evacuated to safer locations across the state.
