President Donald Trump’s special envoy on Thursday confirmed that Pakistan is acting as a mediator in talks between the United States and Iran to end the ongoing West Asia conflict.
Special envoy to the
Middle East Steve Witkoff said the Trump administration has presented its 15-point action plan for peace through Pakistan.
Witkoff said this route has resulted in “strong and positive messages” to be passed between the two sides in the war, even as Iran reportedly rejected the US proposal as “one-sided” and serving American and Israeli interests.
“We have presented a 15-point action list through the Pakistan government acting as the mediator. This has resulted in strong and positive messages,” Witkoff said during a White House Cabinet meeting alongside President Trump.
Pakistan’s role as a mediator was earlier confirmed by its foreign minister Ishaq Dar. Now, the White House has also acknowledged the country’s efforts to broker a peace deal in the Iran war, which has raged on since last month after US-Israeli strikes killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28.
