School Holiday On September 4: Heavy rainfall over the past several days has created a flood-like situation in many parts of North India. The continuous downpour has led to landslides, overflowing rivers,
road blockages, and large-scale damage to public infrastructure. In view of the unsafe conditions, state governments and local administrations have announced the closure of schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in several regions.
List Of States Where Schools Remain Closed Today
Uttar Pradesh
Mathura
In Mathura district, the situation has worsened due to the rapid rise of water levels in the Yamuna River. Flooding and waterlogging have affected many parts of the district, including school areas.
As a result, the District Basic Education Officer (BSA) declared holidays for all schools up to Class 12 on September 3 and 4.
Meerut
Meerut District Magistrate (DM) Dr. V.K. Singh declared a holiday on September 4 for all students from nursery to Class 8 in schools affiliated with the Parishadiya (Basic Education), government-aided, CBSE, ICSE, and Madrasa boards.
Hapur
In Hapur, due to heavy rainfall, the administration has announced that all schools from nursery to Class 12 across all boards will remain closed on September 4.
Agra
In Agra, following the order of the District Magistrate, the Education Department has directed that all secondary and other board schools will remain shut on September 4, 2025.
Haryana
Ambala
Due to continuous heavy rainfall and flood-like conditions, the district administration has declared holidays for all schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in Ambala till September 4.
Jhajjar
The District Disaster Management Authority has ordered the closure of all government and private schools, along with Anganwadi centres, till September 6. However, school staff will remain on duty despite the closure.
Kaithal
Deputy Commissioner Preeti has ordered the closure of all schools, colleges, ITIs, Anganwadi centres, sports stadiums, and nurseries in the Guhla subdivision on September 4.
Rohtak
Citing worsening weather conditions, the district administration has announced that all government and private schools in Rohtak will remain closed until further orders.
Punjab
In Punjab, schools and colleges were supposed to reopen on September 4 after being closed for almost a week. However, the government has now decided to extend the holidays till September 7 due to heavy rains and waterlogging across the state. Authorities said that the situation has not improved enough to resume classes safely. As a result, both government and private schools, along with colleges, will remain shut for the next few days.

Jammu & Kashmir
In Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have also ordered the closure of schools because of bad weather. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, confirmed that all schools in the Kashmir division will remain closed on September 4 as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, in the Jammu division, the Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has extended the holiday for schools till September 5. Officials said the decision was necessary to ensure the safety of students amid continuous rainfall and flood-like conditions in the region.
Himachal Pradesh
The Himachal Pradesh government has announced a complete shutdown of educational institutions across the state. All government and private schools, colleges, and District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) will remain closed till September 7.
The Secretary of Education, Rakesh Kanwar, said that Himachal Pradesh has been facing “persistent heavy to very heavy rainfall” across all regions, which has caused widespread landslides, falling of trees, road blockages, electricity and water supply interruptions, and large-scale damage to public property.
Keeping in view the risks, the government has decided not to reopen schools and colleges until conditions are safe.
Chandigarh
The Chandigarh administration has also declared holidays for schools due to the ongoing heavy rains. According to the order, all schools in the Union Territory will remain closed till September 7.
The notice further mentioned that classes will resume only after a thorough safety verification and audit of school buildings. In addition, government and private-aided colleges, along with technical education institutions, will stay closed for three days, from September 4 to September 6.
