Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 25, following weeks of student protests over a series of examination paper leaks, including
the NEET postponement controversy. The resignation is with the Prime Minister; formal acceptance is still pending. Within minutes of the news breaking, it was the top trend on Indian social media.
From the protest site at Jantar Mantar, Abhijeet Dipke celebrated the news in viral videos, saying, “We did it. We have done it. Jhukti hai duniya, jhukane wala chahiye.” However, CJP’s X page was instantly updated with more videos, and statements from Dipke on the demands that they continue to make in addition to Pradhan’s resignation. The post read: “This is democracy. He has resigned. We have two more demands. We won’t go like this. Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned. But the families of the children who committed suicide should receive compensation of one crore rupees. They should get it. One crore rupees compensation to all those families. And second, these police goons who acted on the 20th. Action must be taken against the police officers for that. Remember, do not mess with cockroach.”
Others added to the news. Comedian and streamer Samay Raina was among the first big names to react, cheering the news and backing the students who had been protesting for weeks. On his Insta, Raina wrote, “More power to the students.” His post set the tone for what followed, a wave of posts framing the resignation as a direct win for the student movement that had been building since the NEET exam issues came to light.
Vir Das also shared a post on his Instagram, writing: “You restored a single word of a tiny little sentence of that book we all read in school and forgot. You beautiful kids. Whatever the hell happens from here, you won. Now hurry up and celebrate.”

Another user added, “Education Minister #DharmendraPradhan has tendered his resignation. I hope the President approves it quickly and he goes out. Congratulations to the students and to all those who supported the student protest. A clean education system is a must and India deserves it. Jai Hind 🇮🇳
However some were in support of Pradhan as well. One user wrote, “Real leaders take responsibility, even for errors they didn’t commit. Massive respect for Dharmendra Pradhan ji 🙏✨🇮🇳”
Another added, “The students wanted action on NEET. The PM himself has addressed that. The students wanted Edu Minister #DharmendraPradhan to resign. He has resigned. There is no other demand from students.
If the cockroaches try & shift goalposts now, the people of India must answer.”
