The Trinamool Congress’s parliamentary crisis appears to be deepening rapidly. Hours after resigning from the party and the Rajya Sabha, former TMC MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy reached BJP leader Bhupender Yadav’s
residence along with five TMC MPs.
West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari was also present at the meeting. Sources said rebel TMC MPs are currently holding talks with Yadav.
TMC Lok Sabha MP Prasun Banerjee is among those attending the meeting, signalling a potentially major split in the party’s parliamentary ranks. This comes at a time when Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee is in the national capital for the INDIA Bloc meeting.
Those present included Bardhaman Purba MP Sharmila Sarkar, Howrah MP Prasun Banerjee, Cooch Behar MP Jagadish Chandra Basunia, Bankura MP Arup Chakraborty, Jhargram MP Kalipada Soren and Bolpur MP Asit Mal. A source also claimed that Mathurapur MP Bapi Haldar attended the meeting.
Reacting to Sukhendu Ray’s resignation, rebel TMC MLA and LoP Ritabrata Banerjee said, “This is not just about Sukhendu. I have not spoken to Sukhendu. But I have seen and heard Sukhendu’s statements on TV. I agree with most of what he has said. And Sukhendu is absolutely right about the functioning of Parliament’s Upper House. Parliament is not a place for a quiz…”
