Shubman Gill is leading the Gujarat Titans in their 14th league match of IPL 2026 on Thursday (May 21). In the match taking place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad against Chennai Super Kings, Gill opened
his account by hitting Mukesh Choudhary for a four on the fourth ball of the first over of GT’s innings. The four by Gill helped him extend his tally of runs to 1874 in T20s as captain. He has now scored more runs in the 20-over format of the game as captain than legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

Tendulkar played 55 T20 matches as captain from 2008 to 2011 and scored 1871 runs, whereas Gill, who is playing his 47th T20 match as captain, now has 1874* runs to his credit.
The overall record of scoring most runs by an Indian batter as captain in T20s is held by Virat Kohli. Kohli played a total of 193 T20 matches as captain of India and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and scored 6564 runs.
He is followed by MS Dhoni, who has amassed a total of 6283 runs in 331 T20 matches as captain of India, Chennai Super Kings, and Rising Pune Supergiants, whereas Rohit Sharma takes the third position with 6064 runs in 225 T20 matches as captain of two teams (India and Mumbai Indians).
