The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a case against a state transport official for possessing assets that are significantly disproportionate to his known sources of income. The official was
identified as Mood Kishan, a deputy transport commissioner in the Mahabubnagar district.
A case of Disproportionate Assets (DA) to the known sources of income was registered against Kishan, a release from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said. Kishan has been accused of indulging in corrupt practices and dubious means during his service.
The assets that were found during the searches include a 50 per cent share in a hotel in Nizamabad, ownership of furniture space, two flats, 31 acres of agricultural land, 10 acres of commercial land, a polyhouse and a shed, a bank balance of Rs 1.37 crore, gold ornaments weighing 1,000 grams and two cars, it said.
Assets Estimated To Be Worth Rs 100 Crore
According to a report by NDTV, the documented value of Kishan’s properties was estimated at Rs 12.72 crore, but the actual market value, including the vast land holdings and commercial interests, are estimated to be above Rs 100 crore.
A source told the channel that the recovery of a 31-acre agricultural land alone is expected to have a market value of Rs 62 crore. The scale of this discovery is shocking given that any officer of Kishan’s rank has a monthly salary of Rs 1 to 1.25 lakh.
Several raids were conducted at Kishan’s residence and 11 other locations belonging to his associates, revealing a startling portfolio of luxury and commercial investments – including a 50% stake in Lahari International Hotel and 3,000 square yards of premium furniture showroom space in Nizamabad.
Kishan also owns 31 acres of agricultural land in Sangareddy district and an additional 10 acres of commercial land within Nizamabad municipal limits, as per the NDTV report. Other assets include two flats in Ashoka Township, a frozen bank balance of Rs 1.37 crore, over 1 kg of gold ornaments and a fleet of luxury vehicles.
Additionally, the transport official is accused of amassing a vast “shadow empire” of hotels and showrooms during his time in active service, allegedly in direct violation of the Prevention of Corruption Act, which caught the eye of the ACB. Kishan has been booked under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
