Mumbai and its neighbouring suburbs woke up to heavy spells of rain in some parts on Tuesday morning. Showers were reported in eastern and north-eastern suburbs of Mumbai, including Andheri, Powai, Kurla
and Ghatkopar. Rain was also reported in Thane and Navi Mumbai. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and Thane. The IMD has predicted that the low pressure formed in the Bay of Bengal will affect some parts of the state. The unexpected moisture is attributed to an interaction of opposing wind systems over Maharashtra and potential impacts from a Western Disturbance in Northern India. A yellow alert of rain has been issued for a total of six districts in Marathwada and North Maharashtra. Colaba recorded a minimum temperature of 22.4 degrees Celsius, whereas Santacruz registered a minimum of 22.6 degrees Celsius. Skies are expected to remain partly cloudy, with a gradual clearing by January 28.
