Thalapathy Vijay’s highly anticipated film Jana Nayagan, widely billed as his final movie before stepping fully into politics, has reportedly hit another roadblock. The film was initially slated for a grand
theatrical release on January 9, 2026, but fresh delays have pushed its release into uncertainty.
Fans who were eagerly awaiting the superstar’s last big-screen outing now find themselves in a state of limbo.
CBFC Revising Committee Yet To Begin Review
According to multiple reports, the delay stems from pending certification formalities with the Central Board of Film Certification. It is being reported that the revising committee has not yet begun the review process.
Last week, sources indicated that the newly appointed panel has neither initiated re-censoring proceedings nor issued an official communication to the production house, KVN Productions. Without CBFC certification, the makers cannot lock a release date or move forward with distribution plans.
The absence of clarity has triggered industry speculation, with uncertainty continuing to surround the film’s theatrical debut.
June 2026 Release Window Under Consideration?
Amid the delay, a fresh update shared by Valai Pechu suggests that the team is exploring a new release window. If certification formalities are completed in time, the H. Vinoth directorial could potentially arrive in theatres in June 2026.
The tentative date being discussed is Thursday, June 18. The timing is reportedly strategic, falling just ahead of Vijay’s 52nd birthday and aligning with the Muharram long weekend, offering a potential box office advantage.
No Official Statement From Makers Yet
Despite mounting speculation about a June release, the makers have not issued any official confirmation. Reports suggest internal discussions are ongoing, with June emerging as the most viable option should certification issues be resolved.
Until then, Jana Nayagan remains in a holding pattern, with fans awaiting clarity on when Thalapathy Vijay’s final cinematic chapter will finally unfold on the big screen.
