Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi today in connection with the Karur stampede case.
Vijay was summoned by the CBI
as part of its investigation into the stampede that took place last year. In October 2025, the Supreme Court ordered a CBI probe into the incident.
What will the CBI question Vijay on?
According to sources close to CNN News18, the CBI is expected to question Vijay on several aspects related to the sequence of events leading up to the stampede. Investigators are likely to ask what Vijay knew about the events as they unfolded on the day of the rally.
The questioning is also expected to include whether Vijay was aware of how congested the venue was and the number of people expected to attend.
He is also likely to be asked the reason behind the delay in his arrival at the venue. Officials may also question whether Vijay was aware of the commotion that followed after the announcement about a missing child.
The CBI is also expected to interrogate Vijay whether he was aware of the police lathi charge carried out to control the crowd. Another key area of questioning will be why he left the venue while the situation was unfolding.
Karur stampede
The stampede occurred on September 27, 2025, during a political rally organised by Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, in Karur district of Tamil Nadu. The incident took place on the Karur-Erode highway at Velusamypuram after a massive surge in the crowd.
At least 41 people lost their lives in the stampede, including nine children and 18 women. More than 100 others were injured in the incident.
