Meerut Metro is set to become the fastest Metro service in the country, with a maximum operational speed of 120 km per hour. It will run along a 21-kilometre corridor from Meerut South to Modipuram, covering
12 stations and completing the journey in just 30 minutes.
First Shared Track Model With Namo Bharat
For the first time in India, a city Metro and a regional rapid train will operate on the same track and infrastructure. The Metro will share tracks with Namo Bharat under the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), strengthening connectivity between Meerut and nearby regions.
Modern, Energy-Efficient Train Sets
The Metro will use three-coach stainless steel train sets that are lightweight and energy-efficient. These trains will feature regenerative braking systems, Automatic Train Protection (ATP), and Automatic Train Operation (ATO) technology for enhanced safety and smooth functioning.
Each fully air-conditioned train will accommodate over 700 passengers, including 173 seats. Facilities include transverse and longitudinal cushioned seating, luggage racks, USB charging ports, and reserved seats for women, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.
Advanced Safety And Passenger Facilities
All stations and trains will be equipped with CCTV surveillance and platform screen doors. Passenger-friendly features such as lifts, designated wheelchair spaces, and special areas for stretchers have also been incorporated to ensure accessibility and safety.
Meerut To Become UP’s Fifth Metro City
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the service soon, making Meerut the fifth city in Uttar Pradesh to have a Metro network.
Currently, the fastest Metro service in India operates on the Delhi Airport Express Line at 110 km per hour. The launch of Meerut Metro will surpass this record, setting a new benchmark for speed in urban transit.
