According to a wireless message issued by Maharashtra Commissioner of Intelligence Shirish Jain on June 17, the enhanced security cover has been extended to Yavatmal MP Sanjay Deshmukh, Parbhani MP Sanjay Jadhav, North East Mumbai MP Sanjay Dina Patil, Hingoli MP Nagesh Patil Ashtikar, Dharashiv MP Omraje Nimbalkar and Shirdi MP Bhausaheb Wakchaure.
The communication, marked “Crash” priority and classified as “Unclass”, was sent to senior police and intelligence officials across Maharashtra.
The message stated that unit commanders have been asked to provide security equivalent to the ‘Y+’ local component scale with immediate effect. It also said that concerned unit commanders should take a decision regarding upgrading, downgrading or continuing the security cover during the next commissionerate or district-level committee meetings in accordance with the government resolution dated January 4, 2018.
The communication further directed unit commanders to take precautionary measures during the visits and stay engagements of the MPs in their respective jurisdictions, depending on the local situation and threat perception, to prevent any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, only three of the nine Lok Sabha MPs of Shiv Sena (UBT) attended the party’s parliamentary meeting in Delhi on Thursday, amid speculation over possible defections from the Uddhav Thackeray-led camp.
The meeting was convened by Shiv Sena (UBT) Lok Sabha leader Arvind Sawant and Chief Whip Anil Desai. Following the low attendance, senior party leader Sanjay Raut warned that disciplinary as well as legal action would be taken against the MPs who skipped the meeting.
According to Sanjay Raut, only Arvind Sawant, Rajabhau Waje and Anil Desai were present at the meeting. Addressing reporters afterwards, the Rajya Sabha MP said the absence of the remaining MPs was being treated as a breach of party discipline and a violation of the party whip.
