In the latest escalations, the strikes launched by the United States and Israel hit near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant on Tuesday evening, the state news agency IRNA reported.
IRNA, citing Iran’s Atomic
Energy Organization, said a projectile struck the area of the nuclear facility in the southern city of Bushehr at around 9:08 pm (17:38 GMT). As per the initial reports, no casualties or damage were reported, and all sections of the nuclear facility remain intact.
“Initial reports indicate this incident did not cause any financial or technical damage, or human casualty, and the various areas of the power plant are unharmed.”
The agency further described the attack as part of continued “hostile actions” by the US and Israel.
The attack was the second attack near the nuclear facility in recent days. A similar attack took place on March 17, without causing any damage or injuries.
Following the earlier attack, Russia also condemned the strike and said it was just metres away from its reactor. Kremalin further called on the United States and Israel to stop attacking the Islamic Republic’s nuclear facilities.
“We strongly condemn the irresponsible and utterly unacceptable missile strike on the inner perimeter of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, just a few metres from an operational reactor,” Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the foreign ministry, said.
Such strikes created unacceptable radiological risks for the Middle East, she said, and were fraught with unpredictable consequences.
The US and Israel have maintained airstrikes on Iran since February 28, killing so far over 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In retaliation, Tehran struck Israel and other Gulf nations with drone and missile strikes hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
