Fans of Kangana Ranaut and R. Madhavan’s hit franchise Tanu Weds Manu will have to wait longer for the third part. The much-anticipated Tanu Weds Manu 3 has been stalled after Eros International claimed
full ownership of the series and issued a notice to Anand L Rai. Tanu Weds Manu (2011) and Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015) became huge hits and made Tanu and Manu’s love story a fan favourite.
The notice by Eros warns the makers that any unauthorised sequel “shall be treated as infringement” and met with action. Due to this, the relations between Eros and Rai have been strained, suggests reports. In fact, the filmmaker had previously criticised Eros for using AI to alter the climax of his film Raanjhanaa (2013) in the re-release.
The notice also states that any effort by another party to produce a sequel would be unlawful. Eros further noted that it is already working on its own continuation of the franchise. The move appears to challenge director Aanand L. Rai’s plans, hinting at a potential legal dispute over the future of the hit series.

It was also reported earlier that Kangana Ranaut might play a triple role in the third film of the franchise opposite R Madhavan. A source close to the project told Pinkvilla, “Kangana is excited to explore the first triple role of her career, and is awaiting a complete narration from Aanand L Rai. The film will give her the opportunity to dive into new shades of a performer.”
The same source added, “It’s a sequel in a true sense and the makers have come across a story that organically leads itself to a trilogy. Staying true to the world of part one and two, the third instalment, too, will be a blend of humour with romance and drama. The basic idea is locked by Aanand L Rai and the intent is to take the film on floors in the second half of 2025.”
The Tanu Weds Manu series follows the love story of Tanuja “Tanu” Trivedi (Kangana Ranaut) and Manoj “Manu” Sharma (R. Madhavan), two contrasting personalities who eventually marry. The sequel, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, saw Ranaut in a dual role, reprising Tanu while also portraying Kusum “Datto” Sangwan, a spirited Haryanvi athlete. The film went on to become a major box office hit.
