Out-of-favour Indian Test cricketer Sarfaraz Khan’s younger brother, Musheer Khan, is also a cricketer. But unlike Sarfaraz, who is a specialist middle-order batter, Musheer bats in the top order, sometimes
even as an opener, and also bowls slow left-arm spin. The 20-year-old cricketer, who is one of the two Indian batters to score multiple centuries in the U19 World Cup, has won multiple matches for his domestic side, Mumbai, with this batting as well as bowling in the last couple of years and is seen as one of the most promising young talents.
Even though Musheer is yet to play for the senior Indian men’s cricket team, his elder brother Sarfaraz is confident about him becoming an India player in the future and has even made a very bold prediction about him.
According to Sarfaraz, Musheer will not just become India player but will also captain the Indian men’s cricket team one day.
While speaking to reporters in Mumbai on Wednesday ahead of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy match against Delhi, Sarfaraz, who is working hard on his white-ball game as well now, said, “I’m working hard on my white-ball game. I want to play for India in white-ball cricket, and I’m paying attention to that. I’m also working with Musheer. His bowling complements his batting and vice versa. It’s not a big deal for him.”
“Musheer is going to be the captain of the Indian team one day. I keep an eye on him. He’s young and plays all three formats,” he added.
According to Sarfaraz, his father – Naushad – used to get sad because of his inability to bowl, but Musheer’s all-round skills have eased his tensions because he now feels that even if his younger brother fails to deliver with the bat, he has the chance to do good with the ball, and vice versa.
“When I used to play cricket, my father would go home sad because I couldn’t bowl. But ever since Musheer started playing, my father knows that if he gets out while batting, he can bowl, and if he doesn’t get wickets while bowling, he can bat,” he added.
