Air India Express has taken another big step in its makeover journey by introducing its first Boeing 737 aircraft with a brand-new cabin design. The airline, part of the Tata Group, continues to modernise
its fleet to make flying more comfortable and enjoyable for passengers.
The new interiors promise a smoother travel experience with modern seating, upgraded lighting and enhanced in-flight facilities. The airline reportedly says this is part of its larger plan to bring a fresh, premium feel to low-cost flying in India.
A Fresh Look Inside The Cabin
The new Boeing 737-8 features 180 ergonomically designed leather seats from Collins Aerospace, offering enhanced comfort and support. Each seat is equipped with a USB-C charging port, allowing passengers to easily charge their devices during the flight.
The cabin has been upgraded with larger overhead bins for increased luggage space and Boeing’s signature Sky Interior lighting, creating a brighter and more spacious atmosphere.
The aircraft’s carpets and panels have been redesigned in warmer tones. Travellers can also look forward to improved legroom, thicker armrests, and seat pitches ranging from 74 cm to 96 cm (29 to 38 inches), which will ensure a comfortable experience on both short and medium-haul routes.

Hot Meals And Upgraded Dining Experience
Air India Express has also upgraded its in-flight dining facilities. The aircraft is fitted with ovens to serve hot “Gourmair” meals on board. Passengers can now choose from 18 meal options, including both hot and cold dishes as well as new breakfast choices.
According to the airline, these additions are designed to enhance the overall travel experience, offering passengers more variety and freshness even on budget routes.

Expanding Network And Operations
The retrofitting of Boeing 737s is reportedly being done at major maintenance centres such as GMR, AIESL and Air Works. This is part of Air India Express’s wider effort to refresh its entire narrow-body fleet.
The airline is also working on improving its flight network. It will now reportedly operate over 2,700 weekly domestic flights and 780 short-haul international services across 70 routes. This marks a 25 per cent increase in network size compared to the previous winter schedule, with 48 new domestic and 10 new international routes added.
