The 9th edition of “Pariksha Pe Charcha” is underway. During the interaction, students asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi whether skills or marks are more important, PM Modi likened it to the question
of whether studying or sleeping is more important. He explained that a balance is crucial in everything.
Leaning too much towards one side will cause instability. Both life skills and professional skills require attention, he added. Can any skill be acquired without knowledge or studying? Knowing when to wake up, when to study, and where to buy a ticket are all essential life skills that need to be integrated, he stated.

Professional skills, such as medical skills, should also be prioritised. Achieving excellence doesn’t mean neglecting university studies. A heart specialist connects with and understands patients. A lawyer knows the relevant sections and gains experience by working as a junior. Continuously innovating in your professional skills is vital. Studying technology is essential. Education and skills are like twin sisters.
PM Modi advises students to balance studies, rest, skills, and hobbies. This balance is key to growth, he says. There are two types of skills – life and professional skills. He encourages students to observe and learn all skills but with balance. According to the PM, skills cannot be learned without knowledge.
PM Modi further shared that even as PM, people still tell him what to do. He likened it to different eating habits at home—some start with roti, others with vegetables. Similarly, some children study better at night while others wake up early to study. He advised not to follow others’ suggestions blindly but to rely on personal experience. He mentioned that Pariksha Pe Charcha also followed a pattern, with sessions held in different states, though the essence remained the same.
This special initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to alleviate students’ fear of exams and relieve their stress. As every year, students, parents, and teachers from across the country have joined the program. This event teaches children that exams are a normal process, not a huge burden. Here, the Prime Minister interacts with them as a friend.
