With Christmas carols echoing through the city and celebrations expected to attract throngs to the Camp area, the Pune Traffic Police have announced temporary traffic diversions on Mahatma Gandhi (MG)
Road in order to ensure smooth vehicular movements and public safety.
The restrictions will take force starting 7 P.M. onwards on Wednesday, i.e., December 24, and will remain in place until the celebrations go on.
The orders have been announced by Himmat Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DSP, Traffic), under provisions of the Motor vehicles Act. The aim is to ensure public safety and further prevent any inconvenience to commuters.
According to the details underlined in the traffic advisory, vehicles moving towards MG Road from Y-Junction will be halted at 15 August Chowk and be diverted via Qureshi Masjid and Sujata Mastani Chowk.
Similarly, vehicles moving from ISKCON Mandir Chowk towards Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Statue and Arora Towers will be diverted to the right at SBI House Chowk and routed towards Lashkar Police Station via Teen Tofa Chowk.
Furthermore, commuters moving from Volga Chowk towards Mohammed Rafi Chowk will also face limitations as they will be diverted via East Road towards Indira Gandhi Chowk.
Vehicles moving from Sarbatwala Chowk towards Mahaveer Chowk will also be restricted and diverted forward via Taboot Street Road. In accordance with the traffic advisory, commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance in order to avoid the Camp Area during peak celebration hours.
