Assam Assembly Elections 2026 polling is set to be held on April 9. Over 2.9 crore voters across the state are preparing to cast their ballots in a single-phase election covering all 126 constituencies.
Here is a complete guide to help electors navigate the voting process smoothly.
The first-time voters are required to register on the Election Commission of India (ECI) website in order to cast their vote. To register, citizens must complete Form 6 online at the National Voters’ Service Portal.
Booth Locator
To vote, your name must be in the voter list, and you need to know your designated booth. Know how to find your booth:
- Go to the official voter portal: https://electoralsearch.eci.gov.in or use Voter Helpline App
- Now, search your name in electoral roll using the EPIC (Voter ID) number OR Name + district + constituency
- Your polling station (booth) name & address along with part number & constituency will appear.
Alternatively, voters can call the Voter Helpline at 1950 (please add your STD code before dialling) or SMS space to 1950.
How To Vote Via EVM?
EVM stands for Electronic Voting Machine and VVPAT stands for Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT).
- Once you enter the booth, poll officials verify your name & ID, and your finger is marked with indelible ink.
- On the EVM, each candidate has a button + symbol.
- Press the button of your chosen candidate.
- A beep sound confirms your vote.
- A VVPAT slip shows candidate name/symbol for 7 seconds.
- Then it drops into a sealed box.
Required ID
Voters can carry any of the below mentioned recognised ID cards for polling:
- EPIC (Voter ID card).
- Passport.
- Driving Licence.
- Service Identity Cards with photograph issued to employees by Central/State
- Govt./PSUs/Public Limited Companies.
- Passbooks with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office.
- PAN Card.
- Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR.
- MNREGA Job Card (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee).
- Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour.
- Pension document with photograph.
- Official identity cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs.
- Aadhaar Card.
This is to be noted that Photo Voter Slip shall not be accepted as a stand-alone identification document for voting.
Where to check voter registration status?
You can only vote if your name appears in the Voter List (also known as electoral roll).
Verify your name on the list by either:
- Logging on to https://electoralsearch.eci.gov.in.
- Calling the Voter Helpline 1950 (please add your STD code before dialling).
- SMS space to 1950 (EPIC stands for Electors Photo Identity Card also commonly known as Voter ID card). Example: If your EPIC is 12345678 then SMS “ECI 12345678” to 1950.
- Download Voter Helpline App on your phone.
Poll Timings
Polling is expected to be held from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, though minor variations may occur in certain areas.
Voters who are in the queue before the closing time will still be permitted to cast their vote, polling authorities said.
