What is the story about?
Hours after the United States killed three Indian sailors, the authorities were on Thursday rescuing Indian sailors from another ship burning off the coast of Oman.
The Embassy of India in Oman has said that a ship, MT Jalveer, has been involved in an incident off the coast of Oman, and Indian sailors are being evacuated in coordination with the Omani navy.
While the embassy did not go into the specifics, visuals show MT Jalveer burning, with smoke bellowing from the ship. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Reacting to the latest incident, India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it was closely monitoring the safety of Indian seafarers amid a series of maritime incidents in West Asia. The ministry noted that several incidents involving Indian sailors had occurred in recent days and stressed that the welfare and well-being of the Indian seafaring community remained a matter of high importance for the government.
The incident involving MT Jalveer comes shortly after the United States attacked a Palau-flagged ship Settebello and killed three Indian sailors .
Hours later, the US Central Command (Centcom) defended the strike. In a social media post, it said, "U.S. forces disabled an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman at 11:20 p.m. ET on June 10 after the vessel violated the blockade against Iran by attempting to transport Iranian oil, marking the third commercial ship disabled by American forces this week."

The lethal strike on the Palau-flagged ship was part of the US campaign of indiscriminately targeting civilian vessels in West Asian waters as part of President Donald Trump's war on Iran. In a bid to pressure Iran into accepting his terms, he has blockaded the Strait of Hormuz and has sought to attack ships suspected of trying to cross. In the attack on the Palau-flagged Settebello, 21 Indian personnel were rescued.
Muscat Daily reported that the ship may have 20 Indian sailors.
The report said that a fire has broken out on MT Jalveer, affecting the engine room and funnel areas. It said that the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack remain under investigation.
Following the latest rounds of strikes and counter-strikes, Iran declared a complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Previously, both the sides had notionally maintained that their blockades were conditional even if they were effectively blanket closures: the United States maintained that only Iranian ports were blockaded whereas Iran maintained that ships belonging to the United States, Israel, and any allies were barred from passing.
