At the opening bell, the BSE Sensex surged over 4 per cent to cross 85,300, while the NSE Nifty jumped more than 1,000 points — its biggest-ever single-day opening gain — to move past 26,300. The rally was broad-based, with Nifty Bank climbing above 61,400 and the Midcap index scaling the 60,000 mark.
