The government has introduced a simpler Know Your Vehicle or KYV process for FASTag users to ensure seamless travel and toll payments across highways. Aimed at improving ease of travel and transparency, the initiative will make it easier for vehicle owners to update and verify their information digitally.
Streamlined verification for vehicle owners
The new KYV process allows vehicle owners to complete their verification online in just a few steps. Users can upload basic vehicle details such as registration number, chassis number, and ownership documents through the official FASTag portal or mobile applications of participating banks. This initiative eliminates the need for physical document submissions at toll plazas and helps reduce long queues during travel.
Reducing misuse and enhancing security
By linking each FASTag with verified vehicle credentials, the new process is expected to lower incidents of misuse and fraudulent transactions. Illegal transfers or use of duplicate FASTags have been recurrent concerns for both authorities and users. The KYV system ensures that each FASTag account is securely connected to a verified vehicle and owner, strengthening trust in the digital toll collection network.
Supporting digital India goals
The streamlined KYV process aligns with the government’s push for digital governance and smarter transportation systems. With over 8 crore FASTags issued, integrating verification digitally marks another step toward modern and transparent infrastructure. The simplified process not only supports travelers but also improves toll revenue management across national highways.
Toward efficient travel experience
This policy change is part of a broader effort to create a hassle-free driving experience. The new KYV format blends convenience, safety, and accountability, ensuring that every vehicle on Indian highways moves faster, safer, and with complete transparency in payments.
