The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology issued an urgent warning for all the attendees who took part in the AI Impact Summit, 2026 about a phishing scam. The scam says that those who participated have been targeted through fraudulent messages requesting for personal card numbers on WhatsApp.
The Ministry asked the attendees to remain vigilant against unsolicited requests for card numbers or WhatsApp contact details.
According to an official alert on X, scammers have been circulating fraud messages requesting sensitive information to facilitate refunds via SMS and WhatsApp.
“Please note: It has come to our attention that a Phishing Scam is currently targeting attendees of the India AI Impact Summit 2026,” the warning said. “Fraudulent messages are being circulated via SMS and WhatsApp, requesting sensitive information to facilitate ‘refunds’. These communications are not official and have not been authorized by our organization,” IndiaAI Mission wrote.
The organisation further urged all the attendees to remain cautious and not share their private information with anonymous contact numbers.
“We urge all attendees to remain vigilant against unsolicited requests for card numbers or WhatsApp contact details. Please ensure you are referencing official channels only for any event-related updates,” it added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, while calling the India AI Impact Summit a success, said India’s youth are powering the country’s rapid rise as a global force in artificial intelligence.
He credited the innovative young minds and forward-looking vision for earning international acclaim at the recently held AI Summit in Delhi.
