Sydney Sweeney was reportedly set to make a surprise appearance in The Devil Wears Prada 2, but fans will not see her in the final version of the film.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the actress filmed a cameo for the highly anticipated sequel, only for the scene to be removed during post-production as part of a “creative decision”.
What role was Sydney Sweeney meant to play?
Reports claim Sweeney was cast as herself in a brief early sequence of the film. She was expected to appear as a celebrity client being styled by Emily Charlton, the sharp-tongued fashion insider played by Emily Blunt. At this point in the sequel, Emily is said to be working in a senior role at Dior’s US operations. The cameo would have helped reintroduce Emily’s character into the story.
Why was the scene removed?
Insiders quoted in report said the three-minute sequence was cut because it did not work structurally within the film. While the filmmakers appreciated Sweeney’s involvement, they reportedly felt the scene interrupted the flow of the opening act and ultimately decided to remove it during editing.
Such late-stage changes are common in major studio films, though it is rare for a high-profile cameo to attract this much attention.
Writer appeared to confirm it
Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna recently addressed speculation around Sweeney’s involvement when asked in an interview, saying, “You saw the movie. She’s not in the movie.” The remark effectively confirmed that the rumoured cameo did not make the final cut.
Why fans expected to see her
Speculation about Sweeney’s role began in 2025 when set photos and online chatter suggested she had been filming scenes connected to the sequel. Because of her current star power, following hits like Euphoria and a string of major film roles, many assumed she would have a memorable supporting part rather than a blink-and-miss cameo.
What is The Devil Wears Prada 2 about?
The sequel reunites much of the original cast, including Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton and Stanley Tucci as Nigel.
The story reportedly follows Miranda navigating the collapse of traditional print media while reconnecting with former allies in the fashion world. New additions include Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu and Justin Theroux.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled for theatrical release on May 1, 2026.
