What is the story about?
Generally, in Bollywood, a sequel is made when a movie is in huge demand and has given big numbers at the box office. While his character, Rehman Dakait (Akshaye Khanna), died at the end of the first film, he returns in the sequel through flashback sequences. These scenes are expected to delve deeper into the character's backstory, exploring his rise to power and his past relationship with the protagonist, Hamza (played by Ranveer Singh).
According to reports, his return was reportedly prioritized by director Aditya Dhar due to the massive popularity and critical acclaim his performance received in the first installment. A couple of reports, including an exclusive story from Pinkvilla, state that while Akshaye is part of the sequel, his appearance is limited to flashbacks, and no new scenes were filmed with him recently, as his portions were wrapped earlier.
A look back at Dhurandar 1
Dhurandar was divided into 8 chapters and opens with a terrorist attack scene. Breaking up the film in to chapters works well for the film.
‘Dhurandhar’ is a name of a mission and it did take inspiration from covert operations led by RAW, 1999 IC-814 Kandahar hijack, Parliament attack of December 2001, Operation Lyari, 26/11 terrorist attack and more. And NO, the film is not based on Major Mohit Sharma. After watching the film, you will realize how the politics of the neighbouring country and how things work in the streets of Karachi and the way the underworld functions and how all that is connected to India.
Dhurandar 1 was not based on the armed forces, but about men who actually risk their lives and fight invisible wars. It is about men who have sacrificed everything to serve their country and most importantly we need to realise that these are the men who have even probably forgotten real names.
Akshaye Khanna’s performance
It was not only Ranveer Singh’s career best performance, but it was an indeed a treat to the eyes to see Akshaye Khanna’s new avatar. Despite being marketed as a Ranveer Singh film, Akshaye’s performance was widely appreciated. His portrayal of the character "Rehman Dakait" garnered massive social media attention, particularly for his 'terrific swagger. His character's dramatic presence sparked numerous memes and popular clips on social media.
