Greenland has prepared a brochure for people in response to frequent power outagesand in order to “strengthen the security of the population and to ensure that society’s overall preparedness is even stronger.” The document does not make any mention of Trump and officials say that they began preparing it last year.
Peter Borg, Greenland’s minister who oversees self-sufficiency, said, "The publication of the brochure with practical and simple advice for households is not an expression that we expect a crisis."
During a joint news conference with Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen, Greenland’s Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mute B. Egede announced that the government is currently reviewing its crisis preparedness.
'Greenland framework ready'
Trump has said that a “framework” is in place to acquire Greenland and announced that he would drop tariffs on European countries that opposed his plan to purchase the island nation.
“Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region. This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations,” Trump said on Truth Social.
He added that officials are currently discussing matters related to the Golden Dome and that Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff will be among those leading the negotiations from his team.
Trump said he would therefore scrap tariffs of up to 25 per cent that he had vowed days ago to slap starting February 1 on Denmark as well as close European allies that have sent troops to Greenland in solidarity, including Britain, France and Germany.
