Since Dhurandhar released to critical acclaim, one of the most talked‑about elements has been Akshaye Khanna’s intense portrayal of gangster Rehman Dakait. Social media buzz even suggested that South Indian superstar Nagarjuna was first approached to play the role, a claim that swiftly went viral across platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit. Now, the south superstar has clarified if he was indeed offered the Aditya Dhar film.
Nagarjuna breaks silence about being offered Rehman Dakait's role
Addressing the chatter, Nagarjuna has now set the record straight on the casting speculation. During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, he categorically denied that he was ever approached for Khanna’s part. The Telugu actor said, “Absolutely not. I was not offered the role, though I wish I was… Dhurandhar is a superb film…"
This clear statement dispels the rumours that Dhurandhar’s creators initially wanted him for the antagonist’s role before Akshaye Khanna came on board.
Praise for the Film and Akshaye Khanna’s Performance
Though he wasn’t part of the project, Nagarjuna had nothing but praise for the film and its cast. He described Dhurandhar as “a superb film… Really incredible direction by Aditya Dhar. I loved his earlier film Uri also! Superb acting by everybody in the film, and Akshaye Khanna was terrific…”
His words underline the respect he holds for both the director and Akshaye’s standout performance, which has made the actor an internet sensation and one of the most talked‑about performers of the year.
Nagarjuna also spoke about audience expectations in Indian cinema today. He noted that after a film like Dhurandhar, “it is clear that the audiences demand international standards of storytelling.”
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar’s sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, is scheduled for release on 19 March, with Akshaye Khanna expected to reprise his role as the infamous Rehman Dakait.
