What is the story about?
Nepali feature film "Elephants in the Fog" made history by becoming the first Nepali film to be selected in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival.
Written and directed by Abinash Bikram Shah, the film is competing at the 79th edition of the festival currently happening in France from May 12 to 23.
Un Certain Regard, a section introduced in 1978 and highlights emerging filmmakers and distinctive storytelling voices, runs parallel to the competition for the Palme d'Or and is considered the second most prestigious section at Cannes.

Minister for Information and Communication, Dr. Bikram Timilsina issues statement
"I extend heartfelt congratulations and best wishes on behalf of the Government of Nepal on the selection and premiere of the Nepali film ‘Elephants in the Fog’ in the prestigious Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival."
"This important achievement clearly highlights the remarkable progress made by the Nepali film industry in terms of capability, creativity, and international competitiveness. Furthermore, successfully presenting Nepali stories, culture, and social realities on one of the world’s most prestigious platforms is a matter of national pride."
He further wrote, "This film has contributed to establishing the Nepali film industry at an international level. The Government of Nepal remains fully committed to the promotion and development of high-quality, creative films capable of competing on international platforms in the future."
The film is a co-production between Nepali companies Underground Talkies Nepal and Jayanthi Creations, along with partners from France, Germany, Brazil and Norway.
