What is the story about?
US President Donald Trump has said he will deliver a live national address from the White House on Wednesday at 9 pm (7:30 am Indian Standard Time on Thursday), in which he is expected to reflect on the past year and outline his administration’s plans for the period ahead.
In a post on his social media platform on Tuesday, Trump described the past year as a strong one for the country and said, “It has been a great year for our Country, and THE BEST IS YET TO COME!” He added that he was looking forward to addressing the nation.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt previewed the address while speaking with reporters on Tuesday, saying Trump would highlight what she described as the “historic accomplishments” of his administration over the past year, along with expectations for the period ahead.
“It’s going to be a really good speech. I was just in the Oval Office with the president discussing it,” Leavitt said. She noted that Trump plans to talk about achievements from the past 11 months, efforts to bring the country “back to greatness”, and his agenda for the next three years.
Speaking separately in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, Leavitt said the president is likely to address issues including border security and the economy.
“President Trump will be talking about what’s to come. The best is truly yet to come, as he often says,” she said, adding that he could be “teasing some policy that will be coming” within the next year.
