What is the story about?
One person was found dead after a fire broke out in two coaches of the Tatanagar–Ernakulam Express in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalli district on Monday, railway authorities reported.
Officials said that fire engulfed B1 coach and spread further to B2 coach. As a safety measure, the affected coaches along with M1 coaches were detached from the rest of the train, preventing blaze from spreading further.
The incident was reported around 1PM near Elamanchili railway station. It was noticed when the loco pilot saw the flames in one of the coaches and promptly brought the train to a halt. Passengers evacuated, later a body was recovered from a coach.
An official added that there were 82 passengers in one of the affected coaches and 76 in another at the time of the incident. “Unfortunately, a dead body was found in the B1 coach,” the official said. The victim was identified as Chandrasekhar Sundaram.
The train was en route to Kerala's Ernakulam when the fire was detected. Amid chaos and evacuation, officials reported that all passengers are safe.
Officials said that the train left after separating the two bogies and alternative arrangements have been made for the remaining passengers.
Further investigation is underway and authorities have launched probe.
