What is the story about?
Authorities in Iran have urged the youth of the country to form "human chains" around important power plants, as US President Donald Trump threatens to strike Iran harder if it does not accept the ceasefire by his deadline.
Iran’s Ministry of Sports and Youth has called on Iran's athletes, artists and students to rally around the country's power infrastructure buildings at 2 pm on Tuesday. Officials say the move is aimed at amassing support to safeguard Iran's national assets as tensions with the US soar.
“This action has been formed at the suggestion of the youth themselves. A number of university youth, young artists, and youth organisations proposed that we form a human ring or human chain around the country's power plants,” Alireza Rahimi, the deputy of youth affairs, said, adding that young people themselves put forth the initiative.
“We hope that with the participation of young people across the country, this human chain will be formed around the power plants, and it will be a sign of the youth's commitment to protecting the country's infrastructure and building a bright future,” Rahimi said.
Meanwhile, Trump has threatened to bomb Iran's power plants and bridges unless it opens the Strait of Hormuz.
"Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!" the president said in a TruthSocial post.
Iran must make a deal that involves the “free traffic of oil” through the critical Strait of Hormuz or else there will be “complete demolition… and it’ll happen over a period of four hours,” he said.
“Every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12 o’clock tomorrow night, where every power plant in Iran will be out of business, burning, exploding and never to be used again,” he told reporters later.
