External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow on Monday and handed over a personal message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as India and Russia discussed bilateral cooperation and upcoming high-level engagements.
The meeting took place during Jaishankar’s two-day visit to Russia. The minister said he conveyed Modi’s greetings to Putin and briefed him on the discussions held at the 27th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC).

PM Modi looks forward to meeting Putin
During his meeting with Putin, Jaishankar said PM Modi was looking forward to meeting the Russian president at the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, reported news agency ANI. He also conveyed Modi’s invitation for Putin to visit India for the Brics Summit.
“Prime Minister Modi looks forward to meeting you at the SCO Summit, then welcoming you to India for the Brics Summit,” Jaishankar said.
Putin, in turn, asked Jaishankar to convey his best wishes to Modi and said he hoped to meet the Indian prime minister soon at the SCO Summit. He also indicated that the two leaders could meet again later this year.
Trade, energy and fertilisers discussed
Jaishankar highlighted progress in India-Russia economic ties, including cooperation in trade, energy, fertilisers and nuclear energy.
He said the recent intergovernmental commission meeting had produced a positive assessment of bilateral economic cooperation, which he said had grown significantly across several sectors.
Putin also pointed to the increase in bilateral trade and said Russia was working to maintain and increase fertiliser supplies to India. The Russian president highlighted energy, fertilisers, nuclear energy and high-technology cooperation as key areas on the bilateral agenda.

During his Moscow visit, Jaishankar also held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The two discussed bilateral cooperation, regional conflicts, global challenges and multilateral issues.
