What is the story about?
In an interview with Radio 4 on Wednesday, the Polish Prime Minister Karol Nawrocki said that US President Donald Trump is the only world leader who is capable of stopping Vladimir Putin to counter Europe’s threat amid capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro along with his wife.
Nawrocki is a solid Trump supporter even before he landed in Britain for meetings with PM Keir Starmer and others.
He said that Russia has been threatening his country as well as central and eastern Europe. The US president was the only person who could, as he put it, "solve this problem" – as well as ending the war in Ukraine.
Recalling the hardships, and referring to last September’s mass incursion by Russian drones when more than 20 uncrewed aircraft crossed into Poland from Belarus and Ukraine, Nawrocki called it “an extraordinary situation.”
The Polish president then thanked Britain for help for sending over RAF Typhoon jets to help defend his borders.
He said Poland had been in a state of hybrid and cold war with Russia since 2021, as it dealt with drones, artillery and false information.
Nawrocki specified that the US is still the guarantor of security in Europe. “What Donald Trump was doing on behalf of the Europeans, deserved support and great respect,” he said.
He also somewhat criticised Europe for not building security and resilience over several years and specified that Poland was allocating about 5 per cent of its GDP to defence.
"I would like to express my very deep appreciation for the British soldiers who are stationed in Poland... taking responsibility for Nato's Eastern flank," he said as quoted by BBC.
