What is the story about?
US Labour Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer has become the third member of President Donald Trump’s cabinet to leave within two months, amid rising instability during his second term.
Following her exit, Keith Sonderling was appointed the acting labor secretary.
The Iranian Embassy in Thailand mocked the Trump administration and put out a satirical post on X saying that the "regime change" is happening somewhere else.
Tehran jokingly addressed Trump's statement of regime change in Iran.
“We’ve had regime change,” Trump said. “If you look already because the one regime was decimated, destroyed. They’re all dead. The next regime is mostly dead. And the third regime, we’re dealing with different people than anybody’s dealt with before. It’s a whole different group of people. So I would consider that regime change.”
White House communications Chief Steven Cheung announced her departure on X on Monday, saying she would be moving to the private sector.
In an official statement, Cheung said, “Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer will be leaving the Administration to take a position in the private sector.”
According to the Associated Press, Chavez faced multiple allegations that she had an affair with a member of her security detail, took personal trips masked as official tours, drank in her office, and sowed chaos in her office.
All three cabinet officials who have quit are women; the other two are Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was let go this month, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who was dismissed last month.
Despite the controversy, Chavez-DeRemer defended her record, stating that her department had made significant progress in bridging the gap between business and labor, expanding job opportunities, and preparing workers for an AI-driven economy.
Following her exit, Keith Sonderling was appointed the acting labor secretary.
