What is the story about?
Google faced a brief disruption across the world, including India, leaving many users unable to access Search and related services properly.
The issue quickly gained attention online as users flooded social media with complaints about failed searches, blank pages and loading delays. Outage tracking platform Downdetector recorded a sharp rise in reports, with complaints crossing 3,300 at the peak around 10:23 am IST.
Most users reported problems specifically linked to Google Search. Downdetector data showed that nearly 55 per cent of complaints were connected to search-related issues, while around 30 per cent involved content not loading correctly. Another 13 per cent of users said they were facing issues with the website itself.
For some users, Google displayed an on-screen error message saying: “We're sorry but it appears that there has been an internal server error while processing your request. Our engineers have been notified and are working to resolve the issue. Please try again later.”
The outage appeared to last for less than an hour before reports started declining. Complaint numbers on Downdetector dropped significantly soon after the spike, suggesting services had largely stabilised. We have also tested Google Search and it is working fine for us during the time of writing this article.
Although the exact reason behind the disruption remains unclear, the temporary outage was enough to spark widespread discussion online, especially given Google’s central role in everyday internet use.
Many users turned to platforms like X to confirm whether the issue was isolated or affecting others as well. The incident once again highlighted how even a short interruption to Google services can immediately disrupt browsing, work and access to information for millions of users.
