Hollywood’s summer box office continues to deliver massive numbers, with Michael crossing the coveted $700 million mark globally, while The Devil Wears Prada 2 edges closer to the $550 million milestone worldwide.
Both films also continued their theatrical runs strongly in India over the weekend.
Michael surpasses $700 million globally
The Michael Jackson biopic has now grossed a massive $703 million worldwide (Rs. 6765 crore) in just four weeks of release.
Out of this, the film has earned $421 million from international markets and $282 million domestically in North America, as per Variety. Over the latest weekend alone, Michael collected $57.7 million from 83 overseas territories, reclaiming the No. 1 position at both the international and worldwide box office despite entering its fourth weekend.
The film is distributed internationally by Universal Pictures and domestically by Lionsgate.
Michael could become biggest musical biopic ever
With Japan, one of Michael Jackson’s historically strongest fan markets, yet to release the film, it is safe to say that Michael could potentially overtake Bohemian Rhapsody’s $911 million lifetime collection to become the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film stars Jaafar Jackson as his uncle Michael Jackson. Despite controversies surrounding Jackson’s legacy and renewed discussions around abuse allegations, audiences globally have continued to turn out for the film in large numbers.
Michael India box office collection
In India, Michael maintained a stable run during its fourth weekend.
-Day 22 (Friday): Rs. 0.82 crore net
-Day 23 (Saturday): Rs. 1.70 crore net
-Day 24 (Sunday): Rs. 1.90 crore net
The film’s total India net collection now stands at Rs. 60.42 crore, while the India gross collection has reached Rs. 72.28 crore.
The Sunday growth indicates continued audience interest even after more than three weeks in theatres.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 nears $550 million globally
Meanwhile, Disney’s nostalgic sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2 has emerged as another major box office success story. The film has now grossed $546.2 million (Rs. 5257 crore) globally, including $370.3 million from overseas markets and $175.9 million domestically in North America, as per Variety.
During its third weekend overseas, the film added another $50.6 million internationally.
The comedy-drama sequel has performed exceptionally well in markets such as:
-United Kingdom: $36.9 million
-Italy: $34.6 million
-Brazil: $27 million
-Mexico: $24.6 million
Made on a reported budget of $100 million, the film has already become a major commercial win for Disney.
Returning cast fuels nostalgia wave
The sequel reunites major cast members from the original 2006 classic, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.The return of the iconic cast, combined with nostalgia-driven marketing and positive audience response, has helped the film dominate among adult audiences globally.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 India collection
In India, the sequel also witnessed decent holdover collections during its third weekend.
-Day 15 (Friday): Rs. 0.39 crore net
-Day 16 (Saturday): Rs. 0.75 crore net
-Day 17 (Sunday): Rs. 0.70 crore net
The film’s total India net collection now stands at Rs. 27.28 crore, with the India gross collection reaching Rs. 31.81 crore.
Strong momentum for Hollywood at global box office
The simultaneous success of Michael and The Devil Wears Prada 2 reflects Hollywood’s continued reliance on nostalgia, legacy storytelling and recognisable global brands.
While Michael is drawing audiences through music nostalgia and curiosity surrounding the King of Pop’s life, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is benefiting from strong fan affection for the original fashion-world classic.
With both films continuing to hold strongly worldwide, the 2026 summer box office season is shaping up to be one of Hollywood’s biggest in recent years.
