Historic milestone in Indian democracy
Prime Minister Modi achieved the milestone on Wednesday after completing 4,399 consecutive days in office, surpassing the record held by India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
While former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi served for over 14 years, her tenure was fragmented. Modi’s achievement establishes him as the longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister in the nation's history, having secured three consecutive mandates in 2014, 2019, and 2024.

She noted that under his leadership, "India has evolved as a leading voice on global matters," referencing breakthroughs in foreign policy and global infrastructure partnerships.
