Amid the singer's retirement, Aamir Khan visited Jiaganj home in Murshidabad, West Bengal, on Monday.
Why this is the right time for Arijit Singh to retire
The singer has achieved everything once can aspire for in his 15 year career. Fame, fans, and fortune that can be carried forward for generations to come. His reported net worth is more than Rs 400 crore. But given his reticence, Singh was no longer gratified by the seduction of fame. And there are bigger and better things calling for a man who may have chosen a path that soothes his soul.
What Bollywood said about his retirement
Singh is perhaps one of the biggest names from the world of entertainment to call it quits right at his peak, but he is not the only one. Popular stand up comedian Zakir Khan recently announced a multi-year break to focus on his health and singer Neha Kakkar wrote a cryptic post about stepping away from everything.
Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt believes the industry fails to prepare artists for the psychological toll of fame.
“Fame trains you to step into the arc lights, but it does not train you to live inside them. At the peak of success, the pressure to remain visible, relevant, and emotionally available becomes relentless. When applause replaces privacy and identity gets trapped in performance, withdrawal is often an act of survival, not weakness,” he told PTI.
Singh made the surprise announcement on Tuesday on his social media, stating that he was leaving his playback career behind.
“Hello. Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners. I’m happy to announce that I am not going to take any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it quits. It was a wonderful journey,” he wrote.
