PM Modi said the world is currently facing a "serious and tense situation" that concerns all countries and that continued military confrontation would not lead to meaningful solutions. He called for collective global efforts to address emerging challenges.
"Today, the world is facing a serious and tense situation, and this issue concerns all of us. In such a condition, India and Austria agree that military confrontations will not lead to a solution. Whether it's Ukraine or West Asia, we support stable, sustainable, and lasting peace. We also agree that reform of global institutions is essential to solve growing global challenges, and eliminating terrorism is our shared commitment," the Prime Minister said.
Welcoming Stocker, PM Modi said India is the first destination outside Europe on the Austrian Chancellor’s current tour, calling it a reflection of Vienna’s strong commitment to deepening bilateral ties.
He also highlighted the significance of the visit, describing it as the first by an Austrian Chancellor to India in four decades and a key milestone in relations between the two countries.
The Prime Minister further said that recent developments, including progress in India-European Union ties, have opened a new chapter in engagement between India and Europe.
"We are pleased that India is your first destination outside Europe. This reflects your strong commitment to strengthening India-Austria relations. The Austrian Chancellor's visit after four decades is highly significant. A new chapter has begun in India-EU relations," PM Modi said.
Expressing optimism about the future, PM Modi said the visit would help take India-Austria relations into a new phase of cooperation and growth across sectors.
Stocker is on a four-day official visit to India, his first to the country and his first official trip to Asia since assuming office in 2025.
