Actor Sanjay Dutt has issued a written apology to the National Commission for Women (NCW) over the controversy surrounding the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from KD: The Devil. In a significant corrective step, the actor also pledged to sponsor the education of 50 tribal girls, according to PTI.
Why the song sparked outrage
The song, featuring Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi, faced backlash soon after release over allegations of vulgar lyrics and the indecent representation of women. Social media criticism quickly escalated, prompting the NCW to take suo motu cognisance and summon those associated with the track.
The controversy eventually led to the song being removed from YouTube, though clips continued circulating online.
Sanjay Dutt appears before NCW
Dutt appeared before the commission in New Delhi with his legal counsel. During the hearing, he reportedly expressed regret for any “unintended” harm caused to society through the song.
The NCW raised questions about accountability, due diligence and the responsibility of influential public figures when participating in content that could be seen as objectifying women.
Education support for 50 tribal girls
As part of what the commission described as a corrective measure, Sanjay Dutt committed to sponsoring the education of 50 tribal girl children in support of women’s empowerment and social welfare.
The gesture has drawn attention as an attempt to convert controversy into a tangible social contribution.
Future legal checks promised
Dutt also assured the commission that future artiste agreements involving him would include mandatory legal due diligence clauses. These provisions are intended to ensure dignified and appropriate representation of women and children in films and related creative projects.
Nora Fatehi yet to appear
Actor Nora Fatehi, who also featured in the song and was summoned by the NCW, did not attend the hearing as she is reportedly abroad. She has sought a fresh date to appear before the commission.
