Spain has shut its airspace to US planes involved in the attacks in Iran, the country's foreign minister said in a statement.

"We will not authorise the use of Morón and Rota [military bases] for any acts related to the war in Iran," Margarita Robles said, adding that Madrid had "made this clear to the American government from the beginning".

Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said that the goal of the decision was to "not do anything that could encourage an escalation in this war".
