Singer-actor Jennifer Lopez recently opened up about one of the most painful chapters of her personal life, her divorce from Marc Anthony, during a candid moment at her Las Vegas residency.
While addressing the audience at her “Up All Night” residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Lopez reflected on the emotional toll the end of their marriage took on her, calling it a “really tough time.” The couple were married from 2004 to 2014 and share twins Max and Emme.
“I Was About To Give Up On It All”
Speaking to the crowd, Lopez admitted that the breakup pushed her to a breaking point.
She said, “After my third divorce, that’s when I really started getting good at it. Seriously, that’s not funny, it was actually a really tough time.”
The singer revealed that after the split, she felt overwhelmed while navigating life as a single mother to their young twins. At the time, Max and Emme were just three years old, making the transition particularly difficult.
During the show, Lopez said she had nearly “given up on it all” before seeking guidance from her mentor, self-help author Louise Hay. Hay encouraged her to keep moving forward, offering advice that Lopez still carries today, to keep dancing through life’s setbacks. She mentioned,
“I was really about to give up on it all. I mean, I was a single mom with two 3-year-old twins and I called up one of my mentors. Her name was Louise Hay. Some of you might know who she was. She passed away,” she said.
“She said to me, ‘Jennifer, you’re a dancer, right?’” the artist recounted. “I said, ‘Yes, I am.’ And she said, ‘When you’re learning a dance, and you get the steps wrong, what do you do?’ I said, ‘I just keep going until I get the steps right.’ And she said, ‘That’s right, Jennifer. Always keep dancing',” she added.
Message of Strength
Lopez continued, “And I wish the same for every last one of you- that no matter what life throws at you, that you dance, and you dance, and you dance, again, and again, and again. I love you so much!”
She also gave an advice to the men.
“You know what fellas, I’m going to let you in on a little something since we’re here and I love the fellas so much, I’m going to tell you a little secret. Women don’t need much! It is true. We need very little. All we need from you is a little bit of sugar. That’s it. You give us a little bit of sugar, sweetness, kindness, and we will give you so much in return.”
She continued, “Men do a lot. We just do so much more! Do I really need to spell it out for you? I’ve been saying it for years. It’s not about the money. I don’t want your stuff. Get out of there please. It really is simple. People look at me and they see me with my sparkly mic and they think that I am expensive.”
The singer has been married four times, to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd, Marc Anthony, and most recently actor Ben Affleck, from whom she finalised her divorce in 2024.
Despite the painful memories, Lopez used the moment to deliver a message of resilience to fans. She told the audience that setbacks are a part of life but emphasised the importance of continuing forward, echoing the advice she once received during her own darkest period.
The emotional reflection became one of the standout moments of her Las Vegas show, revealing a rare glimpse into the struggles behind the superstar’s decades-long career in the spotlight.
