Instagram new features: Instagram is taking a big step towards making its app more social with a fresh update that introduces three new features: a Reposts
tab, a real-time Live Map, and a Friends tab in Reels. The platform says the aim is to make Instagram feel more connected and closer to your group chat — without losing the fun of content discovery.
Reposts tab for shared content
Users can now officially repost public Reels and feed posts directly to their profile without cluttering the main grid. All reposted content will appear in a dedicated Reposts tab. These reposts may also be shown to followers through their feeds.
3. Share locations with friends and see what’s happening around you on the Instagram map 🗺️💞
And if you’re a parent with supervision set up for your teen, you have control over whether they can share their location, and who they’re sharing with.

To repost, users just need to tap the repost icon below a post or reel. Instagram allows users to add a short message with a thought bubble-style comment. The original creator is credited, helping their content reach new audiences organically.
Live Map brings location sharing to DMs
Instagram’s new Live Map lets users see where their friends or favourite creators are posting from in real time — similar to Snapchat’s Snap Map, but with more privacy controls.
Location sharing is off by default. Users can choose to share with all friends, close friends, specific people, or no one at all. There’s also an option to block location sharing at specific places.
The map feature appears at the top of the DM inbox and is currently rolling out in the US, with a global rollout expected soon.
Friends tab adds personal touch to Reels
The new Friends tab in Reels highlights videos your friends have liked, commented on, or shared, giving you a peek at what’s trending among your own circle. The section is powered by Blends, Instagram’s algorithm that curates content based on shared interests between you and your friends.
For privacy-conscious users, there are controls to hide activity or mute updates from selected friends.
