The initial phase of the eagerly anticipated Noida International Airport, situated in Jewar, is on the cusp of becoming operational. This first stage is designed
to accommodate an impressive 1.20 crore passengers annually, facilitating the operation of approximately 150 flights each day. Officials from the Uttar Pradesh government confirmed these figures, highlighting the substantial progress made. Construction for this phase is nearing completion, with over 95% of the work already finished and a projected completion date of November 10. This significant development, slated for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marks a monumental step in enhancing regional air transport infrastructure and is set to ease congestion at existing airports.
Future Expansion Plans
The strategic vision for Noida International Airport extends far beyond its initial operational phase. Authorities have outlined plans to commence the construction of a second runway once passenger traffic surpasses the 1 crore annual mark. This expansion will dramatically increase the airport's capacity, enabling it to serve an estimated 7 crore passengers each year. The overall project envisions a sprawling complex, with the full completion encompassing five runways and covering a vast expanse of 11,750 acres. Upon reaching its ultimate capacity, the airport is projected to handle an astounding 300 million passengers annually, positioning it among the world's largest and busiest air hubs.

Key Regulatory Approvals
The journey towards operational readiness for Noida International Airport has been marked by critical regulatory milestones. Most recently, the airport secured essential security clearance from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) on March 5. This was swiftly followed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granting a provisional aerodrome license on March 6. This license, valid for six months until September 5, subject to further DGCA approval, signifies that flights are now cleared to operate from the facility. Airport authorities have actively engaged with state leadership, presenting the aerodrome license and briefing the Chief Minister on the project's progress and the forthcoming steps necessary to commence flight operations.
