Intense Heat Grips UP
Uttar Pradesh is currently experiencing extremely hot weather conditions, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Lucknow to issue a comprehensive
five-day heatwave warning. This advisory covers more than thirty districts across the state. Experts have indicated that temperatures are expected to significantly exceed normal levels, with both daytime highs and uncomfortably warm nighttime temperatures contributing to the discomfort. The prevailing dry westerly winds and stable atmospheric conditions are identified as the primary drivers behind this prolonged period of intense heat. This situation is particularly concerning as eight cities within Uttar Pradesh have been identified among the top thirty hottest locations nationwide. Prayagraj stands out as the hottest in the state, registering a scorching 44.6°C, which is approximately 5°C above the typical temperature for this season. Other cities like Varanasi (44.2°C), Sultanpur (43.8°C), and Banda, Agra, and Jhansi (each at 43.6°C) are also experiencing extreme heat. Hamirpur and Fursatganj recorded 43.2°C and 43.1°C respectively, also featuring in the list of the nation's hottest places. Even the state capital, Lucknow, recorded a high of 41.9°C, surpassing its usual seasonal temperature by about 3.4°C. The IMD's forecast suggests that these heatwave conditions are not only likely to continue but may also intensify and spread further across the state in the coming days. There is no expectation of significant temperature relief throughout this five-day period, with dry weather expected to persist. Authorities are strongly urging the public to limit their exposure to direct sunlight, especially during the peak afternoon hours, and to ensure they stay adequately hydrated. Taking essential precautions is paramount to mitigating the health risks associated with such extreme temperatures.
